Farrah the travelling Stash

Through one of the FB pages I am a member of I became involved with a travelling stash.. this stash is called Farrah the Traveling Stash.

What is a travelling stash I hear you say.. A travelling stash is a bunch of fabric that travels from person to person…

The coordinator of the stash group gathers together a set amount of fabrics of a nominated size.. in this case a fat quarter with is approximately 50x55cm… and there were 50 of them n the bundle! Each person gets to take what they like from the stash so long as they put the same amount (or more) into the stash before posting it to the next person!

This is what the bundle or stash looked like when it arrived …

When the bundle or stash arrives you get to pick anything out of it you want!!

This is a picture of the fabrics that I claimed from the stash!

After taking the fabrics that I was keen on, this is what the stash looked like

The stash was looking a bit on the light side now.. so time to go shopping in my personal stash to add fabric for the next person.. here is what I added to the mix!

So the final fabric stash leaving my place for the next person on the list looks like this

So thats it! The destination of the stash remains a secret .. mostly so it is very exciting for everyone who is participating in the travelling stash!

Travel well Farrah!

The Monster Quilt

So I don’t have any wonderful words of wisdom (rarely do) but I am very excited to have managed to get the monster quilt all bound off.. took MUCH longer than I thought it would. I have added a few pictures here of the work in progress!

THis is the binding as I am adding it to the backing.

ooo and my new labels arrived!

I tried to take a picture with the quilt hnging on the line, but what you can see here is just over half of it.. the other half is on the other side.. Unfortunately I done have a bigger space to show it off!

Rainbow Star

So after I finished binding the quilt for my nephew (previous post) I decided to move ahead and give the block I am thinking of using for my bee block… and LOVE it.

It was very easy to make and I think quite effective. I am thinking a few of these together will make a wonderful quilt. Anyway.. here is the block!

Corduroy Quilt

So a while ago I decided to make my nephew a quilt for his 21st birthday.. but what to make for a 21 year old boy …. I out my mind to it… searched the fabric store and decided on corduroy. His birthday was ANZAC day (25th April) so I am running a little late.. but we had a few big things going on in that time, and as they say better late than never! Today I have bound off and wrapped the gift in brown paper and string.

Here is a picture of the quilt.

I am sure it will be very warm.. I hope he likes it. I will be sure to give feedback once I give it to him. We are having a family dinner on Tuesday so I guess that is as good a time as any to give it to him.

Anyway… My mum is coming over for dinner but Adam is cooking so I am going to move onto my next sewing project.. to make some of the rainbow blocks to see how good they will look!

Cheers for now

What to do? What to do?

So I have many many projects that I could be working on, and a yard full of chores I should be working on but I sit here this morning wondering what I should do with myself.

My boys have headed out to my mother house to help her with some jobs and I have the house to myself.. so working outside seems a bad use of free time at home… scratch the outside jobs.

Next I have two quilts to bind. One for my nephew for his 21st Birthday that was last month and another for myself.. the moister quilt I mentioned here in an earlier post. I would also like to add sashing to my version of Month 1 quilt inspired by Elaine in the Bee that I am in ( http://pinterest.com/pin/204350901812335734/ ) and also consider doing the month 2 bee quilt which is made up of stars ( http://mummastimetocreate.blogspot.com.au/2012/01/reverse-rainbow-starburst-block.html ).

What I am keen on doing is finding some white so that I can give the block I am considering doing a go.. I call it the Rainbow Start and I have made my colours selections – which you can see in the previous post. here is a link to the tutorial http://ellisonlane.blogspot.com.au/2011/04/starflower-block-tutorial.html – if your keen!

there are many things I could do but I think the first step is to stop writing on this blog and get on with it! I will post pictures as I go to show you what I have been working on!

Cheers

Adventures of the rainbow star (Starflower)

Sally Bally Creations

So today I did collect the table and have an idea of what I shall do with it but as so often happens in life I was thrown a curve ball and have not made progress on the front. perhaps tomorrow will fare better…

So this evening I decided to prepare the fabric for my star block that I am thinking of having for my bee block which is set for August. The design is from Ellison Lane Quilts and can be found here http://ellisonlane.blogspot.com.au/2011/04/starflower-block-tutorial.html .

So in following the pattern I need 16 4×4″ squares… the instructions say 8 fabrics but I have chosen two different but complementing fabrics for each section. Image

And here they are all nicely cut and ready for some white!

Image

Anyway I am looking forward to the making of the block but it will l just have to be another day!

Cheers
